AEMS Physical Education Curriculum

The mission of the Andover Elementary Middle School Physical Education program is to develop students who grow up to lead physically active lifestyles because they understand, appreciate, and enjoy a wide variety of physical activities.

To accomplish this mission we provide the students at Andover with a quality physical education program which provides a variety of planned activities which will help each student develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade have physical education class a minimum of 1 time per week.  When the schedule allows for it, students will get an additional physical education class for that week.  Middle school students have physical education class 1 time per week for two trimesters and 4 times per week for one trimester.

According to the Center for Disease Control, children should participate in a minimum of sixty minutes of physical activity every day.  Although we have an excellent physical education curriculum here at AEMS, we want to remind you that it is all of ours' responsibility to help the children be active for 60 minutes every day.

The AEMS Physical Education Curriculum is aligned to the New Hampshire K-12 Physical Education Curriculum Guidelines which can be found at the following link:

The New Hampshire K-12 Physical Education Curriculum Guidelines provide specific performance indicators for grades 2, 5, and 8.  It is a goal of our program to have the students meet those specific performance indicators, but also to remember each student is different ans will progress at their own rate.  The important thing is that we provide our students with the opportunity to be successful on their own level.
