Student Assistance Program Description

The New Hampshire Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a school-based, evidence-informed program designed to reduce non-academic barriers to student success, including to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug misuse   among students. SAP services include classroom and school-wide initiatives that provide  information and challenge social norms around  potential substance use. In addition, individualized supports such as individual and group  meetings,  allow students to learn skills, make healthy decisions, and increase school success.

The SAP Coordinator provides comprehensive support and guidance to AEMS students. They help students to  navigate academic,  personal, and social challenges. Their role is crucial in promoting student success, well-being, and a positive school environment. The SAP Coordinator has several core duties of what makes up their role: school-wide prevention and awareness activities, classroom-based prevention education, screening, individual and group support services, referral to school and community-based resources, including mental health and substance use disorder treatment, and parent and school staff consultation. The SAP counselor works closely with students and families to identify additional supports and barriers to student success.
